Honouring National Indigenous History Month

Indigenous History Month is a time to honour the strength, presence, and enduring excellence of Indigenous Peoples who have shaped these lands since time immemorial.

This month, we hold space for the stories carried forward through generations—through language, art, ceremony, and everyday life. Indigenous history is not just something we reflect on; it lives and breathes in everything still being built today.

At Manitobah, we are proud to be part of that ongoing story. Our work is rooted in revival, reclamation, and renewal.

Our journey began on ancestral lands—where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet—a gathering place for over 6,000 years, now known as The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Our store and headquarters at The Forks are located on Treaty 1 Territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the national homeland of the Red River Métis.

The recognition of our history on this land is an act of reconciliation and we honour those who walk with us.

As a young Métis entrepreneur, Sean McCormick began Manitobah with the vision of creating a successful company while benefiting his community. Today we continue that vision on a larger scale, as a global brand making a positive impact in Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.

From the beginning, we’ve worked to honour the people and the place that raised us.

Social Impact Is At The Heart of Everything We Do.

Artist Collaborations

We collaborate with Indigenous artists whose designs are rich with meaning and cultural knowledge. When you wear these pieces, you carry those stories with you—and help retell them with pride.

Indigenous Market

The Indigenous Market has uplifted Indigenous artisans since 2013, offering a space where handmade tradition meets a wider world.

Each product reflects cultural knowledge and individual artistry. Artisans set their own prices and keep 100% of the profits—honouring reciprocity and true ownership.

Storyboot School

At Manitobah, we teach and freely pass on what we know. In 2013, we founded the Manitobah Mukluks Storyboot School, which brings Indigenous artists together with students from across Canada. The courses are free for Indigenous youth and help pass on time-honoured innovations and traditions to the next generation.
