John Brent Bennett
Haida, Yahgulaanaas Raven Clan
Born in Masset, Haida Gwaii in 1980, John Brent Bennett is a member of the Yahgulaanaas Raven Clan of the Haida. In 2003 John graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver, BC. For his final project, he carved a 12 ft. totem pole. In 2009, John obtained his masters degree in Fine Arts at Concordia University, specializing in Print Media. In 2010 John was featured in "A Tale of Two Artists" exhibition which was held at Vancouver's Bill Reid Gallery. In the tradition of Haida carvers, John has worked and mentored extensively with Jim Hart on a variety of major public pieces since 1999 in order to sharpen his skills and deepen his practice. John Brent creates art works in print media, wood carving, gold, silver, and copper jewelry.
