WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Assistant Controller supports the Vice President of Finance by managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. This role plays a critical hands-on function within the Finance team, translating enterprise financial strategy into disciplined execution across accounting processes.

Starting at $85,000
LOCATION
This position operates on a hybrid work model within an office environment. The incumbent may be required to report to our Headquarters, located at The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as directed.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Vice President of Finance.
Key Relationships: Finance department, cross-functional teams.
Direct Reports: Yes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established controls and accounting guidance.
- Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Manage Retail Sales tax submissions and compliance.
- Manage the duty drawback process to submit for duty recoveries.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.
- Prepare and review other regular and ad hoc reporting, including weekly Flash and Cashflow forecasts.
- Support the Vice President of Finance in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to strengthen consistency and control.
- Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and coordination with auditors.
- Monitor internal controls and support risk mitigation efforts related to financial reporting and accounting operations.
- Support ERP and financial system integrity, including user controls, data accuracy, and process adherence.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, ensuring workload balance, skill development, and performance accountability.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of direct, progressive experience working in a finance accounting role is required.
- Experience leading or supervising accounting employees is preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems and QuickBooks software is preferred.
Educational Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business is required.
- CPA designation or equivalent (completed or in progress) is required.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
