Meet the Featured Artist
Shannon Gustafson
Shannon Gustafson is an Ojibwe artist from Whitesand First Nation, based in Thunder Bay. A full-time multidisciplinary artist, she works in beadwork, textiles, regalia, woodworking, and painting—best known for her floral beadwork inspired by her ancestors.
Deeply committed to cultural preservation, Shannon continues to learn, create, and share her gifts. She’s received multiple Ontario Arts Council grants and was a 2017 recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation Reveal Indigenous Art Award. In recent years, her art has been a source of healing, resilience, and gratitude.

« Je n'ai pas toujours aimé les motifs floraux. Ce n'est que lorsque j'ai appris à m'aimer que j'ai appris à aimer les fleurs. Comme la poésie, le perlage est la forme autochtone ultime d'expression personnelle. Ce travail représente mon amour pour la terre, les médicaments et la vie végétale. Le perlage est spécial. C'est une guérison. C'est de l'amour. »
