About the Artist: Phyllis Queskekapow is an accomplished Artist whose passion for traditional indigenous sewing has been honed over many years. Born and raised in Norway House Manitoba, treaty 5, Phyllis grew up watching her mother and older sister create beautiful and functional pieces such as mukluks, moccasins, purses, and mittens. She was fascinated by the intricate details and the care that went into each piece.
In her early years, Phyllis only sewed occasionally, but as time went by, her passion for the art was reignited. Five years ago, she decided to put more effort into her sewing, mainly focusing on mukluks and moccasins. Her dedication and attention to detail have made her creations highly sought after.
Phyllis is deeply committed to preserving and sharing her culture's traditional practices. She hopes to pass on her knowledge to her grandchildren and other interested individuals. For Phyllis, the joy of sewing comes not just from creating beautiful pieces but from being able to connect with her heritage and pass it down to future generations. Her art is a testament to the enduring beauty and strength of indigenous culture.
