Crystal's Story: Crystal Behn-Dettieh is of Dene and Carrier ancestry. She was born and raised in Treaty 8 traditional territory and now currently resides in her community of Fort Nelson First Nation in northern British Columbia, along with her husband and three beautiful children. Crystal grew up watching her mother make and sell beaver fur hats, mitts, mukluks and moccasins worldwide. Sadly her mother passed away from cancer while Crystal was still in her addiction. Two years into her sobriety and pregnant with her first child, Crystal felt it of upmost importance that she learned from her grandmother the ways of her people and respect her culture just as her Mom, Grandma and Auntie Elaine have taught her. Traditional native crafting has been her passion for just under a decade. Until only recently she has always kept or given away her beautiful pieces. It wasn't until Crystal walked away with three first place wins that she felt confident to share her tradition passed down from generation to generation with the world. Crystal also invites you to her new facebook and website page "In Her Footsteps". In her spare time she enjoys cooking, gardening, painting, spending time at her family's cabin on the trapline, hunting and raising her family.
Crystal invites you to contact her (250-500-1848) if you have purchased an item and would like to see pictures of the process in making your piece.
