Amber's Story: Amber Lloyd, born in 1987 at Fort St. John, B.C. is of South Slavey ancestry and a member of the Fort Nelson First Nation. She was raised in southern B.C., and with a strong connection to her culture, she returned to her roots in Fort Nelson in 1999. From a very young age, Amber was taught Traditional Native Arts by her mother Theresa Fincaryk (Needlay), attending craft sales and selling within stores in the Okanagan from the age of six. Now a wife and mother of two young boys, Amber continues to bring her crafts to markets across Canada through her Face Book Page “Raw North Crafts by Amber”. In addition, her crafts can be found at craft sales and powwows within her area as well as in select stores throughout B.C. and N.W.T. Amber’s work celebrates both traditional and contemporary styles; her work includes moccasins, mukluks, mitts, and dream-catchers. In her free time, Amber helps her mother gather traditional herbs and medicines, enjoys fishing, hunting, berry picking, river boating, and spending time with family.
